About this tour

Kandy, a vibrant city in central Sri Lanka built around a large lake, is the perfect place to visit. Sigiriya, also known as ‘Lion Rock,’ is a fortress built into the walls and plateau of this world heritage site. The walls are decorated with colorful frescoes, while two giant lion’s paws guard the main entrance. Polonnaruwa has some of the most well-preserved ancient ruins in Asia. Polonnaruwa’s ancient capital is almost in the center of the country. Anuradhapura, a major city of Sri Lanka, is in the north-central province. It is the capital of the North Central Province of Sri Lanka and the Anuradhapura District’s capital. Anuradhapura, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals, is famous for the well-preserved remains of an ancient Sinhala civilization. Wilpattu is a national park on the island of Sri Lanka. This park has a unique feature – “Willus,” which are natural, sand-rimmed depressions or water basins that fill up with rainwater. The park is located in the lowland zone of the Northwest coast of Sri Lanka.

Itinerary

Your unique license Guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Colombo and take you to the Kandy Temple of the Sacred Tooth - the golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth is home to Sri Lanka's greatest Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha.

The heavily guarded room that houses the tooth is open to tourists and devotees during puja. You don't see the actual tooth. The tooth is kept in a golden casket that looks like a stupa. It contains six caskets shaped like dagobas of decreasing size. The complex also includes smaller temples, museums, shrines, and the main temple. Kandy Lake is known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk. It was built by King Sri Wickramarajasinghe in 1807, next to the Temple of the Tooth. Its size has been reduced over the years. The lake is protected, and fishing is prohibited. The lake is the subject of many legends. The king's helm used to bathe on the island in the middle of the lake. A secret tunnel connected it. Spend a night in Kandy.

After a mood-refreshing breakfast, you will be driven directly to Sigiriya.

Pidurangala Rock: Pidurangala Rock, which is just a little lower than Sigiriya Rock, is the best place to view Sigiriya Rock. Pidurangala Rock is a popular sunrise spot, offering 360-degree panoramic views of the valleys and Sigiriya Rock.

Sigiriya roof: King Kashyapa, in the 5th century, domesticated the Lions Rock by building a Palace atop the summit and designing defenses with ramparts & moats around it. The Rock is unique because of its shape, which cannot be found anywhere else on this island. Water gardens and the archeological technology of the large lion carving at the entrance, both of which are still in existence, are very precious. You will find colorful frescoes and unique paintings of women when you climb the steps. The mirror wall is a second attraction in Sigiriya, where you can read verses that visitors have written. Their verses were mainly inspired by their experiences, love, and irony. Sigiriya is a monument to the turmoil of Sri Lankan history and has been declared a World Heritage Site. After arriving at the hotel, you can relax and enjoy the hotel's facilities. Stay overnight in a Sigiriya hotel.

After breakfast, you will be taken to Polonnaruwa Gal Vihara. This Buddhist Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Polonnaruwa is home to the perfect Buddha statue carved from solid stone. Gal Vihara statues were crafted during the reign of King Parakrabahu (11153-1186 A.C). They are in perfect preservation and have an irresistible sublimity. The sculptors at Gal Vihara had greater skill and expertise in stone sculpture than anyone else in Sri Lanka. The images of Gal Vihara have awakened the viewers to a higher level of respect for Buddhist art in Sri Lanka.

The Lankatilaka Temple is one of Polonnaruwa's most evocative buildings. It was originally built by Parakramabahu (i) and then restored by Vijayabahu. The massive gedige, a stone Buddhist temple with a corbelled roof and thick walls, has walls that are 17 meters high. However, the roof is collapsed. Sigiriya is a great place to spend the night after a temple visit.

Isurumuniya: This charming rock temple, which dates from the reigns of Devanampiya Tissa (307-267 BC), surrounds a lotus pond. The corner is carved out with images of elephants playfully splashing water. The murals in the central temple are particularly beautiful. Climb up the Rock to the summit, and you will see a bell-shaped stupa and Buddha footprints inscribed into the Rock. Jethawanaramaya-Jethawana Stupa, the largest in Sri Lanka, is the tallest stupa. Originally, it was 400 feet tall (122 meters), making it the third-tallest building in the entire world. Jethawanaramaya is still the tallest brick monument in the world, even today.

Mihintale Mountain: Mihintale Mountain became a residence for the monks of Arahath Mahinda Mahathera with the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The sanctuary was soon flooded with monastic structures, such as stupas, uposathgharas and bodhigharas. This was all done under the royal patronage. The monks were provided with shade and shelter in sixty-eight cave dwellings. Mihintale was a sanctuary that housed thousands of laypeople and holy men. It had everything necessary for basic living.

After breakfast, Jaya Shri Maha Bodhi is the oldest tree documented in history. It's located in Anuradhapura. This is a sapling of the historical Bodhi, under which Buddha attained enlightenment. It is the oldest human-planted tree in the world, with a planting date. The Ven. Sanghamitta Therini is a sister to Arhant Mahinda, who brought the Teachings of Buddha to Sri Lanka. Ruwanwelisaya, the oldest stupa in Sri Lanka, is an icon of ancient Sri Lankan architectural glory. Ruwanwelisaya is the most sacred place for Buddhists. Its glory, which rises in Anuradhapura city, makes it the oldest stupa. Ruwenwelisaya is a testament to his unmatched service in reviving Buddhism in the nation. The stupa is just a few steps from the Maha Bodhi Tree in Anuradhapura. The stupa is located in Anuradhapura, one of eight places of worship that Buddha visited during his three Sri Lankan visits. Spend a night in Anuradhapura.

After breakfast, you will be taken to Wilpathu. Wilpattu National Park - Sri Lankan Expeditions is a specialist Safari Game Drives Facilitator and tailor-made Safari Tours organizer in Wilpattu.
